Judette Elliston (they/she) is a Haitian-Canadian vocalist, composer, and sound artist based in New York. Their work amplifies our inner worlds, exploring the emotional and ancestral histories that reverberate within. Rooted in storytelling that embraces vulnerability and a visceral approach to improvisation, Elliston uses music as a catalyst for healing and transformation. Their music lives at the nexus of jazz, singer-songwriter, and Haitian folkloric traditions.

In 2024, Judette released their debut EP Tiny, a collection of chamber jazz songs about intergenerational healing and the beauty of chosen family. They also sing and compose for Estuary, an experimental songwriting duo with pianist PJ Fossum (Denmark/Canada). Their duo has performed across Canada, the U.S. and Denmark and released their EP Confluences in 2024.

Outside of their work as a composer, Elliston has a deep love for interpreting Haitian folkloric music. What began as a calling to learn more about their culture became an essential part of Elliston’s artistry; a source of solace rooted in research and re-membering. They recorded EP of this repertoire at The Looking Glass Arts Barn with Charles Goold (drums/percussion), Rashaan Carter (electric bass), and Odin Scherer (guitar), which will be released in summer 2025.

Recent collaborations include sound design for visual artist Melissa Webb’s site responsive installation The Interstitium (2023) and contributing Kreyòl lyrics and what The Times described as “enchanting vocals” to drummer Charles Goold’s album Triptych Lespri (2024). Elliston has also been creating soundscapes for synth & voice in Emergent Cycles, their collaborative project with dancer Mackenzie Nye.

Notable performances have taken place at Dizzy’s Club (USA), Mabou Mines, Smalls Jazz Club (USA), The Django (USA), Greenwood Cemetery Catacombs (USA), Koncertkirken (DK), PRiMi (DK), MAI/SON (CAN) and The Victoria Jazz Festival (CAN).

Elliston holds a BFA with Honors in Jazz and Contemporary Music from The New School. Their artistry has been recognized and supported by institutions including The Prairie Ronde Artist Residency, FABnyc, Downtown Art, Looking Glass Arts, The Kirkland Arts Center, The Shoshana Foundation, and Garrett on The Green.
